Joy - Your Dad is a Big 'Mo!!

I'm inserting this into Joy's Blog because she has more readers than me ! (Pity the pathetic blog boy...)

I did Dara's famous "What song are you quiz" and I feel soooooo stereotyped!!! Ha,ha...

Your Theme Song is Y.M.C.A. by the Village People

"It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

They have everything for young men to enjoy,

You can hang out with all the boys..."

Whether you're a boy crazy girl or a boy crazy boy...

Flirting with all the boys is what you do best (even when it gets you in trouble!)

Whadda you think Joy?

Love,
Papa Critter

Well Chris...

Let's see what it tells me!

Oh I kid you not... it says -- according to Ms. Beagle's answers (drum roll please....)

Your Theme Song is Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf

"I like smoke and lightning

Heavy metal thunder

Racin' with the wind

And the feelin' that I'm under"

A total independent spirit, you can't be held down or fenced in.

You crave the feeling of wind on your face... and totally freedom.

Make No Mistake... this is MURDER

Meet Michael Vick: a young talented NFL player who has a great new shoe about to be released from Nike, and in his spare time he allegedly kills dogs...

I am so sad to hear about this story. I know that people may just think Pit Bulls are fighting machines. But it is not TRUE. Dogs of ALL BREEDS are just as much in need love and affection... even though their muscles are strong and their bite powerful. It is not decent for any living creature to be trained or injured or killed in this manner.

I'm sure you all find me very "preachy" for a little dog. But how on earth can we condone this behavior? What ethical person can buy an NFL ticket or a Nike shoe if they endorse this behavior?

Trust me - my person's life is blessed by the NFL because it provided his family with comforts and education opportunities... so let us not throw out the baby with the bathwater... but if you could sound off to these corporate entities and let them exercise discretion about who and what they endorse... I bet that it will get the attention of those young people who making a fortune through those avenues. That fortune will be more useful (especially karmically) if they do not continue to kill living creatures as a sport or hobby.

Here is a link to the information from my friend Yeshe:

Read the federal indictment, so one has an idea of the facts, here’s the link:
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2007/images/07/17/peace.phillips.taylor.vick.07.17.07.pdf

I’d like to see if there is a way we can encourage more people to register their horror, disgust, etc. The NFL and Nike are no different that MSNBC, etc. when they dropped Don Imus because of his comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. Sponsors do not want controversy about their spokes-people.

And some more advice from my friend Nydia:

You can also call the NFL 1-212-450-2000 and tell the commissioner Roger Goodell what you think, and NIKE 1-503-671-6453 for CEO/President Mark Parker, maybe suggest they try sponsoring some REAL heros

Caution: Graphic Images Ahead

If you have a weak stomach these images are hard to take. I post them here only because (regardless of whether we find them "tasteful") they are a frightening reality in our modern "civilization".

So although the tone of this post is morbid... the point must be driven home/ sometimes to give rise to compassion we have to first connect with the discomfort or pain.

Love ya'll like the last beacon of hope for a needlessly dying animal!

How would you like it to be whacked hard over the head as a "sport"!?

Norway and Canada have a new kind of tourism. Killing baby seals. They call it a "sport"..

You want to call this a sport ?

Is he a sportsman?

Why?

You're our only hope !!!

This barbarism shouldnt be possible in our society..

Dont turn your back on us, we are defenseless

I know these images seem painful for you, but we feel the pain. We are being slaughtered and its going on RIGHT NOW...

What gives him the right to kill us? Who is he to decide about life and death?

What kind of sport is this? I didnt harm anyone. I was just swimming around..

Please help me and my friends...

This is not an ask on behalf of a particular organization or rescue group. This is a plea, as though the animals themselves could speak to you... to get involved with your time, energy or money with some entity that can prevent this kind of cruelty. Your government, a non-profit, a small coalition. Start SOMEWHERE... but start today. You can even remain anonymous if you wish... the karma is still yours for being of benefit!

Something for FREE??

Yes. And not just "something". Something AMAZING!!!

This is a song that was recorded this week in Brooklyn, NY. A modern day lama putting a twist on an ancient prayer from the practice of transferring the consciousness at the time of death.

"Doing what, when?" you might ask.

Well, as we all know... there is not a person in history (to date) that has not, at SOME point during their life... died. Well, except of course those of us who are ALIVE. But none of us expects to be the first person to live forever. (If you do think that applies to you, click off this blog... go to YAHOO! or GOOGLE or some search engine and type in "delusional" or perhaps "local therapist" and we'll catch up with you later!) But since everything alive will eventually be... well, NOT so alive anymore... doesn't it make sense to have a prayer that is "geared" towards that event in ones life that is GUARANTEED! (I mean.. you may or may not have a wedding, have a child, have a college degree... but we all will have a date with destiny one day...)

Anyhow, even I the lowly hound of the blogosphere understand that you humans have a precious opportunity by having been born AS HUMANS! You can control your lives in a way that most sentient beings (living things with senses) cannot. One way you could help us dogs (or cats or gerbils or whatever other beings you care for) is to play this prayer for us. It is FREE!!! You can download it.. or you can get a free CD (though you will have to pay a little for shipping.)

BUT let me repeat... it is FREE!! As in you don't have to scrape around under your car seat for loose change like when you want a "Big N Tasty" from the dollar menu at McDonald's! (Huh? Oh... okay.. Chris has just informed me that the particular behavior described here is something that he does... but most people needn't resort to such measures to purchase a value menu item.)

Well.. I won't keep tapping away letter cause you have something to do now. Hop on over HERE and download your free song!!! It's FREE!!! (Did I mention the price yet?)

We your loving beasties appreciate all the blessings you give us!!!

Love you like a lullaby that brings peace to your heart! (Especially one that is FREE!)

Say "Cheese" (Actually -- Please Don't!)

Here is a frightening revelation about the mentality of our American kids. I came across this article today while doing my daily "dog crawl" across the Net looking for doggy pizza recipes...

Middle schoolers acknowledge 'cheese'

"Cheese" is not only dangerous. It's cheap. About $2 for a single hit
and as little as $10 per gram. The drug can be snorted with a straw or through a
ballpoint pen, authorities say. It causes drowsiness and lethargy, as well as
euphoria, excessive thirst and disorientation. That is, if the user survives.
(
Interactive: What is "cheese"? )

Authorities aren't exactly sure how the drug got its name "cheese."
It's most likely because the ground-up, tan substance looks like Parmesan
cheese. The other theory is it's shorthand for the Spanish word "chiva," which
is street slang for heroin.

By using the name "cheese," drug dealers are marketing the low-grade
heroin to a younger crowd -- many of them middle schoolers -- unaware of its
potential dangers, authorities say.

"These are street dealers, dope dealers," Moncibais recently warned
students at Sam Tasby Middle School. "They give you a lethal dose. What do they
care?"

Moncibais then asked how many students knew a "cheese" user. Just about
everyone in the auditorium raised a hand. At one point, when he mentioned that
the United States has the highest rate of drug users in the world, the middle
schoolers cheered. (
Watch middle schoolers raise hands, admit they know drug users ) "You know, I know being No. 1 is important, but being the No. 1 dopeheads in the world, I don't know whether [that] bears applause," Moncibais shot back.

Authorities say the number of arrests involving possession of "cheese" in
the Dallas area this school year was 146, up from about 90 the year before.
School is out for the summer, and authorities fear that the students, with more
time on their hands, could turn to the drug.

I was saddened to see the kids so excited by our status as #1 drug users in the world. Have we somehow given our children so little self worth that being dope-heads is appealing as long as we have the MOST in our population? This is why I am excited about the new efforts of bands like "Blinded by View" and the music efforts of a living Dakini to cast a whole new net of compassionate activity. If we think this is not a tragedy happening right under our noses... wait til enough kids die from snorting cheese up their noses!

Let's all wake up and protect our children. You know what we dogs do if someone tries to jeopardize our pups? We bear our teeth and protect our young! It is not about violence... it is about compassion. You don't have to be cruel to get the attention of those threatening our youth, but you do have to be strong and brave!

Love ya'll like I love a cheese pizza... but keep that other cheese away from our babies!!!

D.O.B.

This about sums it up:

As a female dog, I figure I cannot be called an S.O.B. - but I assure you I was born from from the loins of a bitch! As such I needn't worry if my strong opinions offend anyone... cause hey... I'm just a dog.

BUT...

...if I were a human with political freedom... and my elected National Leader said this:

"They can have their votes of no confidence, but it's not going to make the
determination about who serves in my government," Bush said in
Sofia, Bulgaria, the last stop on a weeklong visit to Europe.

... well I would take it upon myself to remind that elected official exactly whose government it is!

But that's just me.

And What of These Children?

So I am lying on the floor this morning... realizing that it is the day after Memorial Day (which screws up everything from your banks, to your mail and your trash pickup service) and suddenly I hear the sounds of the children.

In my half groggy state I glance up at the alarm clock beside Chris' bed. It is nearly 9:00 AM. Why are they here? Shouldn't they be at school?

At that point Chris swings his feet off the side of the bed and goes to make the kids some breakfast. Dazed and confused... I look over towards the calendar.

In big scrawling letters the words "Last Day of School" are scribed on the block that represents last Friday. I contemplate the meaning of this. Children... at home... all day long... for the next eight weeks.

SO. If my writing seems a little, um, terse for the next period of time. Now you might understand why. I have grown to love many things about my life in Sedona. I have NOT YET come to appreciate the children with whom I live. Chris, John and Rabden keep telling me if I would stop barking and growling when the children startle me... they'd pet me and play with me. I am not yet sold on the concept...

Chris and John, meanwhile, seem elated to have little playmates this morning. As I speak they are all gathered around in the Arizona room watching "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang" and singing that mind numbing theme song from the film. An odd movie indeed! Imagine a car that floats and flies !? It is absurd. Like a dog that... wait, huh?! Never mind... I digress!

Today I pray for a stress free summer in a house of children (where we dogs now have to share our attention and treat quota!)

Love ya'll like a loyal mutt (should) love her kids!!!

Another Inspiring Pup

As a Buddhist canine - I am obviously saddened by the euthanasia of the animals, but I just loved the heroism of this dog (pictured at left) who was so willing to protect children:

Tue May 8, 2:53 AM ET
Nine-year-old Jack Russell terrier George is being honoured with a posthumous bravery medal for saving five New Zealand children from an attack by two pitbulls.
The medal from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) comes after US Vietnam veteran Jerrell Hudman said he was sending his Purple Heart medal to George's owner after hearing of the dog's bravery.

George, who had a heart problem, won fame after defending five children from the pitbulls in the small North Island town of Manaia a week and a half ago. The two pitbulls rushed at the five children on the street, prompting George to charge the much larger dogs as the children escaped.

The Jack Russell was badly mauled by the two pitbulls and later had to be put down because of his extensive injuries. The two pitbulls were also put down.

The SPCA medal is usually awarded to people for their bravery in defending animals.
"George was a very brave little dog who almost certainly prevented severe injury, if not death, to at least one of the children," SPCA chief executive Robyn Kippenberger said. "It's truly tragic that he paid with his own life for his instinctive act of courage."

Hudman, 58, of Austin, Texas was a US Marine for 30 years and said he decided to send his Purple Heart to George's owner Alan Gay after reading the news on the Internet because the dog was "a little warrior".

The Purple Heart is awarded to those killed or injured fighting for the US military.

Show Pony

Every now and then you see an animal do something that is just spectacular. Today a friend shared this with me and I felt the need to show it here:

Here is the marvelous "dancing horse" Matine with her rider Andreas Helgstrand at the Grand Prix Freestyle - if you have the time watch all 6.5 minutes. This is just a beautiful beast in motion and the fact that the performance ends with an ode to New Orleans vis-a-vis "Voulez Vous Couchez"... well it brings tears to my little ole New Orlean native eyes!

And a 5,6,7,8...

Pretty Kitty in a Foreign City

I just was reading about Konchog's newest feline addition. I LOVE happy endings to pet rescue stories!!!

I hope Nita enjoys her Mongolian Monk Abode. Sounds like Mooj is loving the sibling role! (Sarah - we should play chase sometime!)

There were a pair of famous cats that rolled into town last week... perhaps you recognize this story:

PHOENIX - A New York couple who wanted to spare their cats a trip in an airliner cargo hold during a cross-country move completed a 2,500-mile cab ride to northern Arizona on Monday.
Neither Bob nor Betty Matas had any regrets about making the move to the region known for its beautiful red rock landscapes in such an unconventional fashion. But Bob Matas said he has no desire to take another road trip any time soon.

"It was pretty tiring, for my wife especially. ... We're happy where we are. We're happy and that's it," Bob Matas told The Associated Press

The Matases, who are retiring in Arizona, met cab driver Douglas Guldeniz when they hailed his taxi in Manhattan after a shopping trip three months ago and jokingly invited him to come along on their upcoming move.

As the three talked over the ensuing weeks, the gag became reality. The Matas, their two cats — Pretty Face and Cleopatra — and Guldeniz left the couple's Queens neighborhood April 10. They arrived Monday in Sedona, about 90 miles north of Phoenix.

"It's quite thrilling to be in the place we want to live and retire, said Bob Matas, 72, a former audio and video engineer for advertising agencies. "There's beautiful red mountains and weather and friendly people."

Guldeniz drove his canary-colored Ford SUV cab about 10 hours a day for a $3,000 flat rate plus gas, meals and lodging. The SUV is a hybrid-electric vehicle, which helped lessen the cost of fuel.

Matas said he was "flabbergasted" by the attention surrounding the couple's trip. Passers-by recognized them when they saw the New York cab, he said.
"Every state that we hit, people would say 'Are you the ones?' and we would say 'Yes, we are the ones,' " Matas said.

The Sedona mayor welcomed the couple at a noontime ceremony Monday, presenting them with a bag of Sedona souvenirs. Their real estate agent presented them with the keys to their new home.

Well I'm sure that Sedona will be a PURRRFECT match for these cool cats!!

Love ya'll like a cabbie love the words "keep the change!"

Calling All Pet Activists

Alright gang... I am barking up a storm today to see if we can't each help shape the future of animals like ME!

I was pulled from the muck and madness of New Orleans by the kind folks at Best Friends... they sent me to the compassionate and loving care of Tara's Babies in Arizona... and there I moved from what was called a dog "who had given up hope and was shutting down" to the energetic, loving, mutt-blogging bundle of "Joy" I am today.

Now I can repay their kindness by asking as many of you as are willing to donate $1 (or more) and pass the word on. Tara's Babies now offers hope to animals scheduled to be euthanized. They are securing the land that will provide a second (and sometimes last) chance for many animals, and a place where life-loving people who support them are willing to help.

I'm no Sally Struthers, but I am emploring you all to open your heart and give a donation - or find a group to collect with and turn it into a personal mission to save a life! Time is of the essence - It reminds me of the story of a starfish that Chris learned from his Dad.

Please help today. Click here for details and PLEASE scroll down to the Donate button. And then invite a friend or two to partner in your life-saving efforts!

Love ya'll like a starfish splashing back into the ocean!

Balancing the Effect

Hello Everybody.

All of us live in a different world today than yesterday. The onward movement of time means that as each second, minute, hour passes... something is gone forever.

I was very saddened by the events on the campus of Virginia Tech. I like to think that there is good in the world, and at moments like that event - we are hard pressed to find joy on this earth. 26 minutes ago as I type this... the 22nd anniversary of the Prayer Vigil in Poolesville Maryland began (midnight 4/18/2007.) Since 1985 there has been someone praying for peace at all times and in 1999 on October 31st... that effort has been mirrored in Sedona, Arizona.

I just wanted to offer some small comfort in the face of this horrific tragedy. To know that the best part of the human spirit is the compassion it shows in the shadow of the worst of human actions. This dog thanks her lucky stars for those moments of compassion.

Here is a gift offered to us on anniversary of the prayer vigil...

Love ya'll like the peace of knowing someone is praying for us all... right now.
